Method
- Rinse the fresh sprouts, dry them well and remove damaged outer leaves. Trim the dry ends and halve medium sprouts lengthwise through the stems. Quarter very large ones. Remove loose scraps that could burn or lift toward the heating element; follow the appliance’s instructions for safe basket use.
- Put the cut sprouts in a bowl. Add the olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Toss until the surfaces have a light, even coating. Scrape any seasoning from the bottom of the bowl onto the pieces rather than adding extra oil automatically.
- Set the air fryer to 375°F (190°C), preheating if the manufacturer requires it. Arrange the sprouts in one uncrowded layer in the basket. Cook for six minutes, then use tongs to turn the pieces or shake the basket safely. Keep airflow open; this method does not use a paper liner or foil.
- Cook for another 4–8 minutes, checking frequently toward the end. The edges should be browned and a fork should enter a thick stem section with little resistance. If the leaves darken while the centers stay firm, lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue checking in short intervals. Serve promptly.
Notes
Recipe development note: This formulation has not been kitchen-tested. Times and yields are estimates; follow the doneness checks and appliance instructions.
Refrigerate leftovers in a shallow covered container within two hours, or within one hour above 90°F (32°C). Keep at 40°F (4°C) or below and use within three to four days. Reheat to 165°F (74°C). An air fryer can restore some surface crispness, but check frequently to avoid burning the already browned leaves. The reheated texture will differ from a freshly cooked batch.
