Iced Banana Matcha Latte With Oat Milk

Banana milk softens the grassy flavor of matcha in this iced latte. Blend half a ripe banana with cold oat milk, whisk the matcha separately, then pour both over ice. Keeping the tea separate until assembly lets you work out any clumps before they disappear into the milk.

The drink is creamy but should still pour easily. A half banana is a starting point for one glass; adding more fruit makes a noticeably thicker drink. Use unsweetened oat milk if you want to control the sweetness, and taste before adding maple syrup. Layering is optional—the drink should be stirred before sipping.

Recipe development note: This formulation has not been kitchen-tested. Cooking and preparation times are estimates; follow the stated texture checks and product instructions.

Picking matcha, banana and oat milk

Use plain matcha powder rather than a sweetened latte mix. You do not need the most expensive tea for a milk drink, but you should like its flavor. Keep the package tightly closed and follow its storage directions; old, poorly stored powder can taste dull.

A ripe banana provides sweetness and blends into the oat milk more readily. A firm banana may leave pieces and a less sweet drink. Frozen fruit makes a thicker base, so start with a thawed or fresh banana if you want a latte you can drink without a wide smoothie straw.

Oat milks vary in sweetness and thickness. Shake the carton first. A barista-style product can be richer, while a lighter product may give less body. Check the label if you need to avoid particular ingredients or allergens; this recipe does not make a blanket gluten-free claim.

Blending banana milk and whisking matcha

Generated process illustration; not photographs of a kitchen-tested batch. The four panels summarize preparation stages.

Step 1: Blend the banana and oat milk

Put the peeled half banana and cold oat milk in a blender. Add the optional vanilla. Blend for 20–30 seconds, check for pieces and blend again briefly if needed. Taste and add the optional maple syrup only if the banana milk needs more sweetness.

Step 2: Sift and whisk the matcha

Sift the matcha into a small bowl. Add the warm water and whisk in quick back-and-forth strokes until the mixture has no visible dry clumps. A handheld milk frother can also work in a sufficiently deep cup. Follow the matcha package's water-temperature guidance rather than using boiling water automatically.

Step 3: Pour banana milk over ice

Put about 3/4 cup of ice in a tall 16-ounce glass. Pour in the banana oat milk, leaving space for the tea. If the milk pours too slowly, stir in another tablespoon of oat milk before assembling.

Step 4: Add the matcha and stir to drink

Pour the whisked matcha over the banana milk. Pouring slowly over the back of a spoon can create a temporary layer, but a blended green drink is equally suitable. Stir the glass thoroughly and serve straight away. Re-stir if the banana pulp settles.

Getting rid of clumps and excess thickness

Matcha does not dissolve in the same way as sugar. Sifting breaks up dry clumps, and whisking disperses the fine particles in water. If a dry pocket remains, press it gently against the side of the bowl with the whisk and continue mixing before adding the tea to the glass.

If the drink is too thick, reduce the banana or add a little more oat milk. If it is too bitter, check your powder and water-temperature instructions before adding lots of sweetener. For the next glass, start with 1 teaspoon of matcha and adjust gradually. Banana sweetness should balance the tea without requiring a heavy topping.

Changing the sweetness and tea balance

For a less sweet drink, omit maple syrup and use unsweetened oat milk. A tiny pinch of cinnamon can be blended into the banana milk, though it changes the matcha flavor. Soy or dairy milk can replace the oat milk if those fit your preferences; the result will taste and pour differently. This version is intended for serving cold, so reheating the assembled drink is not part of the method.

Making a single glass to serve immediately

Make the latte just before serving. If needed, blend the banana milk earlier, cover it, refrigerate promptly and use it the same day. It can darken and separate; stir or blend again before adding fresh matcha. Whisk the tea at serving time and add ice last. Keep the milk-based drink refrigerated rather than leaving it on the counter for an extended period.

Questions about iced banana matcha latte with oat milk

Can I whisk matcha without a bamboo whisk?

Use a handheld milk frother in a deep cup after sifting the powder. A small ordinary whisk is another option, although it may leave more clumps. Take care when frothing warm liquid to avoid splashes.

Will the banana milk stay pale?

Freshly blended banana milk can darken as it sits. Prepare it close to serving time for the palest color. The color change is not a reliable test of food safety, so still follow refrigeration and storage limits.

Does this latte have caffeine?

Matcha generally contains caffeine. The amount depends on the powder and how much you use; this recipe does not provide a measured caffeine value. Oat milk and banana do not make the tea decaffeinated.
